Archery

Update for 2017

Since redistricting, Sappington has been reduced to one PE teacher.  A teaching assistant replaces the 2nd PE teacher.  Due to this change we are unable to continue with the Sappington Archery team at this time.  I (Mary Driemeyer) will continue to offer a club in the mornings.  My focus at this time is to implement archery in the middle schools. Sperreng will continue their team next year.  I am working very closely with Truman to have a staff member certified and to begin the in-school program.  If this is a program you desire to have in your schools please make your desire known to administration.

ARCHERY IN PE-Archery is taught in 4th and 5th grade.  Your child may begin to take archery the summer before entering 3rd grade during Summer Enrichment.
The type of bow we use and MUST be used if your child is planning to be on the archery team is the Genesis Original bow.  This is the bow approved by the National Archery in the Schools Program.  We provide bows but some children chose to purchase bows. Click here to see an example of the bow.  Some bows come in a kit that includes arrows.  Click here for the NASP approved arrows.  Bows and kits are also available at Denny Dennis and other outdoor sporting good stores.
Mrs. Driemeyer and Mr. Thomson are certified NASP instructors.

ARCHERY Club-Will be offered in the mornings

ARCHERY TEAM-DISCONTINUED AT THIS TIME

2016-17 information-To be a part of the Archery team you must be a Sappington student, try out for the team.  Archery try outs are on Oct. 19th from 3:30-6:30 pm.  We will schedule a time for your student. Parents may stay and watch. An archery team consists of 24 students.  The top six students in 5th grade and the top six students in 4th grade will make the team.  The next 12 positions will be determined by highest remaining scores.  If your student makes the Archery Team the team fee will be $150.  Team shirts are $10.  Team fee covers tournament costs all the way up to the St. Louis shootout (does not include state). If students qualify for state or nationals there will be additional costs. Any additional needs (team party, team supplies, coaches travel expenses for state/nationals) will be paid for separately or through fund-raisers.  All students are required to purchase tournament arrows (6). Students are highly encourage to purchase a Genesis Original bow but we do provide bows for students if needed.  The cost of a bow is around $150 and the cost increases with customized colors. Great Christmas gift!  Denny Dennis offers a 10% discount to students who participate in archery at Sappington.  So in a nutshell-on the low end without post season expect an investment of around $180.  On the high end $380.

Practices will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until 4:15 pm. Students will be required to attend at least 2 practices per week.
